STAGECRAFTERS THEATER EVENT

“The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time”

So much of our daily life is spent behind screens that we forget the power of experiencing a story live. Join us for an evening at The Stagecrafters for “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time”, a captivating and unforgettable theatrical production.

Christopher, a mathematically gifted adolescent on the autism spectrum, discovers that his neighbor’s dog has been mysteriously killed. Determined to uncover the truth, he ventures beyond his comfort zone and uncovers surprising revelations about his neighbors, his family, and himself. Both hilarious and deeply moving, this Broadway-acclaimed show blends comedy and emotion into a gripping mystery and powerful experience.

The evening includes light fare and cocktails in the theater courtyard before the show and during intermission. Guests will also have the opportunity to meet the Director, Producer, and members of the artistic and design teams during a pre-show reception, offering insight into what brings a production to life.

As a not-for-profit theater working with a conservative budget, “Stagecrafters” embraces intentional and imaginative design. For this production, those choices create inventive and analog effects that cut through the digital noise and invite audiences to truly feel something real.

Now considered a modern classic, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is celebrated for its distinctive voice, its contribution to greater understanding of autism spectrum disorders, and the celebration of “difference.”

CHESTNUT HILL CONSERVANCY DISCOVERY WORKSHOP

Mapping the Wissahickon

Discover how the Wissahickon Valley became the treasured green refuge it is today.

This engaging workshop explores the forces that shaped the valley’s landscape and the efforts that preserved it, using historic maps, guides, and rare publications that both recorded and influenced its transformation.

From early industry and expanding neighborhoods to major conservation victories, you’ll trace how Philadelphians worked to protect clean water, wildlife, and open space. The program also highlights modern stewardship by the Chestnut Hill Conservancy, Friends of the Wissahickon (which protects more than 105 acres today), and Wissahickon Trails.

Featured materials come primarily from the Conservancy’s archives, with special loans including a never-before-seen map from the creation of the Wissahickon Watershed Overlay Zoning District and colorful paintings of valley life on loan from Bowman Properties Ltd.

A standout highlight is a 1955 planning map proposing nine road crossings through the valley, none ever built, capturing a pivotal moment when preservation won over development.

Presented by CHC Curator and Archivist Alex Bartlett, the talk spans four eras: Industry, Public Protection, Modern Urban Park, and Land Stewardship.

CPR TRAINING

CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) is a powerful, life-saving skill used when someone’s breathing or heartbeat suddenly stops. In those critical moments, what you do in the first few minutes can make all the difference.

CPR is easy to remember with CAB:

C = Compressions — strong, steady chest pushes that keep blood flowing to the brain and vital organs.

A = Airway — making sure the airway is open.

B = Breathing — giving rescue breaths to deliver much-needed oxygen.

You’ll learn how to perform 30 chest compressions followed by 2 rescue breaths, helping oxygen move through the lungs and oxygen-rich blood circulate through the body until professional help arrives.

Whether you’re learning for the first time or refreshing your skills, this class gives you the confidence to act when it matters most.

Learn this life-saving skill, or update your certification, and be ready to step in when someone needs you most.
